Day 9 - Toy Organization

Well, after being "snowed in" (haha) for a day or 2 and being spoiled having Jason home for 4 days instead of the typical weekend, I've been sidetracked on the challenges. But, luckily, the challenges have been things that I've already tackled and have kept clean and organized. Today's challenge is to get the toys organized (and if you do not have kids then to organize your hobby/craft space).

Those of you that know me, know very well that I am OBSESSED with Pottery Barn. However, there are just one too many $ on the tags there. I love every page in their catalogs and drool over every new item. I love you, PB!! Anyway, I love the linen lined baskets. Yeah, I'm one of those people. In our living room, I have one on the bottom shelf of each end table. One is for his "library" and the other for Thomas & Friends accessories.

Currently, Andrew has one of those 9-hole cubbies for his toys with canvas boxes. But, once Alex gets here, that's moving out and the toys will be stored in one of these fantastic baskets:

One for each little guy. And, I'm getting one of those nifty chalkboard markers (the kinds that don't erase without water. These baskets are huge and a perfect size to go at the foot of each crib/bed.
I know, you are trying to figure out how I keep down the toy insanity, right? I don't let him have all of his toys. Each month (or whenever I notice he's getting bored or needs something new going on), I switch out the toys. That way, he doesn't get overloaded with all the new toys and he won't get tired of the same things. It's always new to him. Plus, I have less to deal with (i.e step on, clean up, look at, listen to...) Bonus!

Anyhoo! That's my toy organization story. I hope you all are doing great with these challenges! Head over here for more info:

  1. I was the same way as you...I switched the kids toys in and out when they were little, too! Great ideas!

  3. Brockey - Thanks! Those baskets are found at Target under the Smith & Hawken line. They run about $30-40 depending on the size. We never did get those baskets though. We ended up with a different idea:

ALL the toys were moved out of there and into the office which is now doing doube-duty. Check it out :)
